Once known as “Baby Chatta” and later sprouting to a vocally stronger and wiser Chatta, Chatta has entered her musical realm since the age of fourteen. The name Chatta has derived partially from the name CHAT, as a result of her up-tempo lyrical tongue, therefore being referred as The Speed of Consciousness. Such style was influenced by her elder brother Mark, followed by Lieutenant Stitchie, Capleton, and Beenie Man. Chatta is born of a Jamaican milieu consisting of the St. Andrew and Westmoreland district. Chatta’s ultimate goal is to distribute her product and message on a level whereby the female body is not negatively portrayed and lyrical vulgarity is excluded. For such theme need not be a basis for the appreciation, development, and triumph of her composition, as she reveals; “Repudiate from Selling Your Body, Exhibit your Mind and Ingenuity”.

The Speed of Consciousness made numerous appearances on Much Music to promote the annual Honey Jam hosted by Michee Mee. In 2006, Chatta appeared on Montreal’s Rase TV for the Canadian Reggae Star Competition. In 2007 Chatta swept the finals of the Canadian Reggae Star Competition, and walked away as the final winner.
* In conjunction to her music, Chatta holds a Degree from York University in Anthropology and Mass Communications. Chatta is currently studying to become a Doctor of Natural medicine. Chatta believes it is her duty to feed the masses with the knowledge attained in her studies and personal studies, and intertwine and make it available through her music, “I am a healing Instrument of the Most High”.
